Non-member fees can be paid HERE. \nOne payment per studio should be made for this event by the teacher at this link: PAYMENT \nYour competition certificates will be available for digital download. \nAPPLICATION REQUIREMENTS\nFill out the Online Form (https://forms.gle/aui5sW4eZiv36ZHc6)\n\nAll entries will require:\n\nContact information for the teacher and composer\nPDF of the score\nHeader to include Title\, Age & Years of Study\nDo not include the composer’s name on the PDF\nMulti-instrument compositions require a cover page listing the instrumentation\nAudio recording of the composition (MP3 or MP4)\nNo video recordings please\nOne paragraph artist’s statement\n\nIf you choose to submit your entry manually:\n\nFill out the application.\nSubmit a PDF of the score to nvmtacomposition@gmail.com. The PDF should include the title of the piece\, composer’s age and number of years of study. It is in memory of Alma Grayce Miller\, a former NVMTA member\, who left funds for this purpose. \nNot sure how to navigate student compositions? Can it be done between now and the deadline? (The answer is yes.) For ideas\, tips and inspiration\, check out and information video here. \nELIGIBILITY\nParticipants must study with an active member teacher of NVMTA or pay the non-member fee (as defined in the bylaws). Composition scores are to be submitted in a digital format (PDF preferred) personally produced by the composer and should not exceed 10 minutes in playing time. \nThere is no restriction on the selection of instruments. There are neither age or grade requirements nor requirements concerning form or style. \nAudio recordings may be produced by the student or teacher (preferred). Computer generated recordings are also permitted. Video recordings are not allowed. \nTEACHER GUIDELINES\nParticipating teachers must pick up materials from the chair at the conclusion of the event or pay $5 to the chair to have materials returned by mail. \nAWARDS\nThe Jo Lombard Award ($150) will be given by competition judges to one overall outstanding composition. Second ($75) and third place ($50) awards may be awarded by judges at their discretion. \nThe Frances Hollans Award ($25) will be awarded to a student age 12 and under whose original composition is judged to be most creative. \nEach student will receive judges’ comments and a certificate of participation or special award. Recordings of all entries will be available online via Google Drive. \nWhen available\, a local orchestra may review and choose one composition entry for full orchestration and performance. There are no eligibility requirements for this opportunity. All compositions are considered.

DESCRIPTION:WE ARE SUPPORTED BY \n              \n\nLocation\nColumbia Baptist Church\, 103 W. Columbia St.\, Falls Church\, VA 22046 (for Festival\, Competition\, and Honor’s Recital) \nEligibility\nFestival\n\nOpen to pre-college students grades K through 12\, and adults.\n\nCompetition\n\nOpen to pre-college students grades K through 12.\nA student who is chosen for the Honors Recital one year cannot participate in the Competition the next year. The student may participate in the Festival and then return to the competition the following year.\nStudents who are not present and ready to perform at their assigned time may play for comments only\, and only if time permits.\n\nApplication Requirements\n\nPlease register at new.mtfest.com.\nPay fee online through new.mtfest.com. Awards at the 6th and 9th of years of participation TBD. \nHonors Recital\nA select number of students from the 2nd round will be chosen to perform in the Honors Recital on Saturday 28 February 2026\, 3-5pm at Columbia Baptist Church. \nStudent Guidelines\nStudents should check-in at the front desk 15 minutes before their performance time. Check-in desk is in the lobby directly in front of the entrance nearest the parking lot. \nTeacher Guidelines\n\nWork Assignments:                           \n\n\n3 hours for teachers who enroll 1 to 10 students.\n6 hours for teachers who enroll 11 or more students. \nTeachers must be available to help in other capacities at the discretion of the Chair.\n\n\nCheck-In: Teachers check-in at the front desk 15 minutes before their judging assignment. They must sign their initials and the time of check-in.\nTeachers must agree to abide by the Teacher Responsibilities.\nWork Obligation: If a participating teacher cannot\, for any reason including emergencies\, fulfill their work assignment\, they must:\n\nInform the chair by 15 January\, 2026.\nContact the chair regarding payment for the substituting teacher.\nChecks must arrive at chair’s address before February 1\, 2026 or teacher’s students will not be scheduled.\nSubstitute teachers: The Bach committee provides a substitute for all teachers who are unable to fulfill their work obligation. Please do not provide your own substitute.\n\n\nFor more detail go to Teacher Responsibilities\, subparagraphs 2\, 3\, and 4.\nCopyright: All participants are responsible for complying with U.S. copyright law. Entrant will abide by all copyright laws and has permission to use all music given to judges and accompanists during all events as outlined here.\n\nThe chair will notify all teachers regarding those students chosen to play in the the Honors Recital. \nPlease let the chair know if you are willing to work extra hours as a judge at the rate of $60/hour. \nJudging Workshop notes
