Welcome to the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association, one of the finest local associations of music teachers in the United States!  Our more than 400 members offer professional instruction in every string, brass, keyboard or woodwind instrument as well as voice. Since the 1950’s it has been our mission to enhance and promote the appreciation and serious study of music in Northern Virginia. We hope you find our site useful and informative.  We invite you to participate in all of our meetings and activities.

Music professionals in all instruments who teach in Northern Virginia – the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park – are invited to  join NVMTA as active members.  We especially love to help new teachers get started in this exciting business.

We offer a Teacher Referral Service, Workshops on musical and pedagogical issues; Student Competitions and Festivals, Recitals, Music Skills Testing, and scholarship opportunities need-based scholarships and through the MusicLink Foundation, which matches talented children with volunteer teachers.

Our affiliations with state, Virginia Federation of Music Clubs and Virginia Music Teachers Association, and national music organizations, National Federation of Music Clubs and Music Teachers National Association, offer the opportunity to:

  • attend National and State Conventions: Take part in these informative annual events.
  • receive American Music Teacher and Junior Keynotes magazines: Receive regular issues of these outstanding publications.
  • obtain National Certification: Enhance the professionalism of your studio by applying  for this designation.
